本文是京都大学大学院マネジメントスクール／経済学研究科教授 末松千尋 發表在《Linux 開放原始碼白皮書 2006》内容。開放原始碼(open source)的普及正在加速進行。開放原始碼是開放原始碼組織（Open Source Initiative，OSI）所下的一種關於軟體的定義，嚴格說來並不能適用於軟體以外的事物；但它的基本思路在經濟與社會面也廣泛地有著共通性。開放原始碼僅在軟體世界引起的衝擊就已無法估計，而其影響看來已經廣泛地超出軟體業界、並轉而發展出了經濟與社會面的形式。
